La rentrée des classes est désormais la période privilégiée pour sortir une petite compil'... Chez les grosses compagnies, on a plut?t axé ?a sur le néo métal (en fourrant là-dedans tout et n'importe quoi, même du néo-punk ou du grunge) ou sur le c?té "fran?ais" (avec des bouts de suisses ou de luxembourgeois dedans), celle-ci tente de mixer les deux. Sortie chez Inca/EMI, la compil Metal area présente quelques groupes fran?ais au milieu de nombreux étrangers (enfin américains surtout) et si l'idée est bonne, le résultat laisse à désirer. Déjà, il n'y a aucun "concept" derrière cette compil, aucune unité, aucun fil directeur, rien (entre Oghr, Biohazard et Anyone, pas évident de trouver un point commun), c'est juste une compilation. Le visuel est incroyable, le mauvais go?t ultime en terme de typographie, d'images et de couleurs, certainement la pire pochette de la décennie, si c'était sorti en 1983 alors que les ordinateurs étaient encore de la science-fiction pour pas mal de monde, ce serait passé (et encore ?) mais à l'heure du PhotoShop et du Paint Shop Pro pour tous, on peut se poser des questions sur le choix de cet artwork... Pour ceux qui seraient quand même charmé par la compil', ils auront quanf même le bonheur d'écouter quelques uns des groupes fran?ais les plus prometteurs : Eths et Stereotypical Working Class ne sont plus à présenter mais Klang!!!, Munshy, Porn et Third Eye Machine méritent de se faire conna?tre davantage. Et c'est toujours bon pour eux de para?tre sur une compil au milieu de l'armada RoadRunner (Coal Chamber, Fear Factory, Dry Kill Logic, Machine Head, Anyone...) et des My Ruin, Dog Fashion Disco et Medication. Il y a encore quelques années, cela aurait été impensable.
