A Matter of Life and Death

這張《A Matter of Life and Death》已經是英國傳奇重金屬樂隊Iron Maiden的第14張錄音室專輯了。雖然Iron Maiden樂隊已經名滿全球，但這次卻是成軍近30年的Iron Maiden第一次有專輯打入Billboard 200專輯榜的前十名當中。在美國發行首周，《A Matter of Life and Death》的單周銷量為5萬6千張，名列本周Billboard 200專輯榜的第九位。在此之前，Iron Maiden在Billboard 200專輯榜中打榜成績最好的專輯是1986年的《Somewhere in Time》，名列第11位。

隨著Bruce Dickinson和Adrian Smith這兩員不可或缺的虎將的回歸，Iron Maiden在新世紀之處迎來了樂隊的第二春。《Brave New World》，《Dance Of Death》以及現場專輯《Rock In Rio》的發行使得Iron Maiden一掃90年代中后期的頹勢，這位金屬巨人再次站了起來。客觀的說，Iron Maiden絕對算得上是2000年之后表現最為出色，狀態最為穩定的金屬老將之一。在Metallica已經墮落，Megadeth頻繁換將的時候，Iron Maiden給全世界歌迷帶來的卻依然是他們高質量的專輯和馬不停蹄的巡演。

闊別兩年之后，高產的Iron Maiden帶來了這張《A Matter of Life and Death》。和《Dance Of Death》一樣，這張《A Matter of Life and Death》依然是一張曲風向他們80年代音樂風格回歸的專輯。復雜的編曲，史詩般的旋律，三把吉他交相輝映出的精彩Riff，飛炫的Solo，Steve Harris低沉的馬蹄點式的Bass音......在聽過這張專輯之后，我們會發現以上這些使Iron Maiden在近30的音樂生涯中立于不敗之地的“要素”依然清晰可見。《A Matter of Life and Death》仍由Iron Maiden的貝斯手Steve Harris和樂隊的老搭檔凱文·謝麗（Kevin Shirley）聯合制作，而本張專輯的一大顯著特點就是曲目普遍偏長，共有6首歌曲超過7分鐘，《For The Greater Good Of God》和《The Legacy》更是都超過了9分鐘。而其中最有代表性的歌曲要數《Brighter Than A Thousand Suns》，《The Longest Day》和《For The Greater Good Of God》。而在這三首歌中，最短的也將近8分鐘。可以看出，Iron Maiden依然是最擅長譜寫金屬史詩的一代宗師。

客觀來說，《A Matter of Life and Death》是一張還算不錯的金屬專輯。在這個嘻哈音樂漫天飛舞，獨立音樂遍地開花的年代，老金屬在很多人眼中早已經成了昨日黃花，但Iron Maiden非常難得的堅守住了他們的這塊金屬陣地。
